Key Highlights
- Partnership between Anthropic and SpaceXAI grants access to the Colossus 1 supercomputer infrastructure
- Claude Code users across Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise tiers will see doubled five-hour rate limits
- Deal provides access to more than 220,000 Nvidia GPUs plus 300MW of additional capacity arriving within 30 days
- According to Wells Fargo analysts, the agreement could accelerate Anthropic’s revenue trajectory, currently at $44B ARR
- Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s CEO, revealed Q1 2025 revenue multiplied 80-fold, creating infrastructure bottlenecks and outages
In a significant infrastructure expansion, Anthropic has secured a computing partnership with SpaceXAI to leverage Colossus 1, a powerful AI supercomputer that will substantially increase the company’s processing capabilities.
SpaceXAI, previously operating as xAI and creator of the Grok conversational AI, became part of SpaceX through a merger completed earlier this year. The merged entity operates under Elon Musk’s leadership, who simultaneously oversees Tesla.
Through this partnership, Anthropic will obtain access to an impressive array of more than 220,000 Nvidia graphics processing units along with over 300 megawatts of fresh capacity scheduled for deployment within the coming month.
Anthropic intends to leverage this computing expansion to enhance service levels for Claude customers. Users subscribing to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans will experience doubled five-hour rate limits for Claude Code.
Additionally, the organization is eliminating the peak-hours throttling previously applied to Claude Code for Pro and Max subscribers. Rate limits for Opus models through the API will see increases as well.
According to Wells Fargo’s assessment, this computing agreement positions Anthropic for potential revenue acceleration. The firm’s analysts highlighted that Anthropic’s annualized revenue recently climbed to $44 billion, representing substantial growth from $30 billion at April’s close and $14 billion recorded in February.
Infrastructure Strain From Unexpected Growth
Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s chief executive, issued an apology earlier this week following service interruptions that affected users across the company’s AI models.
During remarks at Anthropic’s developer conference, Amodei disclosed that revenue experienced an 80-fold multiplication during the first quarter of 2025. The company had originally anticipated only 10-fold expansion.
“That is the reason we have had difficulties with compute,” Amodei said. He added that Anthropic is working to provide more capacity as quickly as possible.
The SpaceXAI partnership also creates possibilities for ambitious future initiatives. Anthropic has indicated interest in collaborating with SpaceX on developing space-based AI computing infrastructure capable of multi-gigawatt operations.
Comprehensive Capacity Expansion Strategy
The SpaceXAI agreement represents just one component of Anthropic’s multi-faceted infrastructure strategy.
The organization finalized an arrangement with Amazon to obtain up to 5 gigawatts of processing power. The initial gigawatt from this deal is projected to become operational by late 2026.
Anthropic has also established agreements with Google and Broadcom for capacity scheduled to activate in 2027. A collaboration with Microsoft and Nvidia ensures capacity access through the Azure platform.
An investment partnership with Fluidstack supports ongoing AI infrastructure development across the United States.
Among these various arrangements, the Colossus 1 partnership with SpaceXAI delivers the most immediate benefits, with GPU resources expected to become available within the month.
