Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Entertainment and Amazon have forged a comprehensive multi-year partnership, granting the tech giant’s Wondery podcast platform exclusive advertising and distribution rights to “The Oprah Podcast” across audio and video channels.
The partnership was revealed on Monday, April 27, though neither party disclosed the financial arrangements behind the deal.
Through her podcast, Winfrey explores diverse subjects ranging from personal relationships to financial wellness, featuring conversations with prominent cultural icons and ordinary individuals alike. Previous episodes have showcased guests such as Serena Williams, Hugh Jackman, Ina Garten, and Adam Grant.
The podcast will shift to a twice-weekly release schedule beginning this summer. Come July, Wondery will handle distribution across Amazon’s ecosystem, including Prime Video and Amazon Music platforms.
Listeners will still find the program available on YouTube and competing podcast platforms in addition to Amazon’s services.
Extended Content Rights Package
This partnership extends well beyond simple podcast distribution. The agreement encompasses content rights tied to “The Oprah Winfrey Show” archives, “Oprah’s Book Club,” and “Oprah’s Favorite Things.”
This broader scope enables Amazon to integrate Winfrey’s content throughout its diverse ecosystem spanning audio streaming, video platforms, e-commerce, and advertising networks — representing a significantly more comprehensive arrangement than typical podcast licensing agreements.
Winfrey emphasized that the partnership enables her to “continue the work I feel called to do – opening the door for conversations that matter.”
Strengthening Wondery’s Content Portfolio
Amazon continues expanding Wondery’s programming lineup as competition intensifies in the podcast industry. Key competitors include Spotify (SPOT) and Alphabet′s GOOGL) YouTube.
The Oprah Podcast now joins Wondery’s established catalog featuring popular shows like “New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce” and “Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard.”
The podcast sector has emerged as a strategic growth opportunity for technology and media corporations as marketing dollars increasingly flow toward on-demand audio and video platforms.
Amazon ($AMZN) shares traded at $262.44, reflecting a decline of $1.55 or 0.59% at the time of reporting.
