Broadcom experienced a whirlwind week packed with developments. From introducing cutting-edge semiconductor technology to achieving a historic market valuation milestone while benefiting from escalating AI infrastructure investments from major technology companies, AVGO made significant headlines.
On the final day of April, Broadcom revealed three innovative chipsets targeting residential broadband gateway applications: the BCM68565 gateway system-on-chip alongside two dual-band Wi-Fi 8 radio chips designated BCM67142 and BCM67192. These semiconductors merge 10G PON fiber connectivity capabilities with advanced Wi-Fi 8 wireless technology.
The BCM68565 provides support for XGSPON, GPON, and Active Ethernet fiber protocols. It features an integrated CPU complex with open source middleware compatibility, a specialized network processing engine, and works with DDR4, DDR5, LPDDR4, and LPDDR5 memory technologies.
Both radio chips consolidate 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz frequency bands within single semiconductor packages. Broadcom reports that the third-generation digital pre-distortion technology incorporated in these chips reduces peak power consumption by 25%. The consolidated architecture aims to lower component expenses and streamline circuit board designs.
This represents Broadcom’s fourth consecutive release cycle for Wi-Fi 8 products. The chipsets are presently undergoing sampling with select early-access clients. The company has not disclosed pricing details or general commercial launch timelines.
AVGO Achieves $2 Trillion Milestone
On April 22, AVGO momentarily reached a $2 trillion market capitalization threshold as shares climbed toward the $422 mark. The upward momentum stemmed from expanding AI collaborations, including a strategic agreement with Google extending through 2031 and a partnership with Anthropic anticipated to deliver approximately 3.5 gigawatts of computing capacity starting in 2027.
Broadcom’s first-quarter financial performance provided substantial catalysts for investor optimism. Total revenue climbed 29% year-over-year to $19.31 billion. Semiconductor revenue reached $12.5 billion, representing a 52% increase, while AI semiconductor revenue jumped 106% to $8.4 billion.
Looking ahead to Q2, Broadcom forecasts semiconductor revenue of $14.8 billion, marking 76% year-over-year growth. AI chip revenue is expected to reach $10.7 billion, translating to 140% expansion.
The semiconductor manufacturer now maintains partnerships with six prominent AI organizations on multi-year, multi-gigawatt infrastructure deployment strategies. Broadcom has established an objective of generating over $100 billion in AI chip revenue by 2027.
Free cash flow totaled $8 billion during Q1, representing 41% of revenue. The corporation distributed $10.9 billion to shareholders throughout the quarter via dividends and share repurchases.
Big Tech Capital Spending Provides Additional Momentum
Broadcom received further support from Big Tech earnings announcements. Meta elevated its 2025 capital expenditure projection by $10 billion to a bracket of $125 billion to $145 billion. Microsoft and Alphabet similarly increased their capex guidance.
Meta maintains chip procurement agreements with Broadcom, Nvidia, and AMD. The elevated spending projections from these cloud infrastructure giants helped alleviate worries triggered earlier in the week by reports suggesting OpenAI had fallen short of internal revenue objectives.
During premarket trading on April 30, AVGO shares advanced 1.4%.
Mizuho maintains an Outperform rating on AVGO with a $480 price objective. Among 42 analysts tracking the stock, 35 assign it a Strong Buy rating. The consensus price target stands at $469.94, with the highest projection reaching $630.
