The electric vehicle manufacturer reported first-quarter 2026 deliveries of 10,365 vehicles, exceeding Wall Street’s consensus estimate of 9,678 units from Visible Alpha data. Manufacturing output reached 10,236 vehicles, likewise beating the projected figure of 9,852 units.
This represents a significant operational improvement. During the same period in 2025, the company delivered only 8,640 vehicles while manufacturing 14,611 units — a discrepancy that suggested excess inventory accumulation at that time.
The stronger-than-expected delivery figures follow a challenging period in late 2025. When the $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax incentive concluded in September, effective vehicle prices increased, dampening consumer demand. This resulted in weaker delivery numbers during the fourth quarter.
Market conditions have since shifted favorably. U.S. fuel prices have surged following the outbreak of conflict with Iran in February, which industry observers believe may accelerate consumer migration toward electric vehicles. This trend stands to benefit both Rivian and Tesla.
Despite exceeding expectations, shares declined 1.2% during premarket hours. RIVN has fallen over 24% year-to-date in 2026, while short interest represents 11.8% of available shares.
R2 Model Debut Approaching
The forthcoming R2 vehicle represents a pivotal component of Rivian’s expansion strategy. Initial deliveries are scheduled to commence this spring. The base-level R2 configuration, with pricing starting near $45,000, will arrive next year and compete directly with Tesla’s Model Y Premium, which retails from $44,990.
According to company statements, the R2 is anticipated to significantly broaden its market reach beyond existing R1T and R1S customers.
Uber Collaboration Strengthens Position
Rivian unveiled a strategic long-term partnership with Uber last month. The arrangement includes an investment of up to $1.25 billion from Uber, which intends to introduce fully autonomous R2 SUVs into its robotaxi fleet beginning in 2028.
This collaboration provides Rivian with both financial resources and a concrete deployment strategy for its autonomous vehicle technology.
The automaker maintained its full-year 2026 delivery forecast of 62,000 to 67,000 vehicles. Complete first-quarter financial results are scheduled for release on April 30 following market close.
