On Monday, March 9, British artificial intelligence infrastructure provider Nscale announced the completion of a $2 billion Series C financing round, elevating the company’s valuation to $14.6 billion.
Norwegian entities Aker and 8090 Industries spearheaded the funding round. The investor roster also featured Nvidia, Citadel, Dell, and Jane Street.
Established in 2024, Nscale operates a vertically integrated business model, maintaining proprietary data centers, GPU infrastructure, and software platforms designed to deliver enterprise-scale AI computational resources.
The company counts Microsoft and OpenAI among its client base, representing some of the most significant names in artificial intelligence today.
According to Nscale, the fresh capital injection will finance the expansion of its data center footprint to accommodate surging demand for AI computing capabilities.
The funding announcement coincides with three prominent additions to Nscale’s board of directors. Nick Clegg, previously a Meta executive, will join alongside Sheryl Sandberg, Meta’s former Chief Operating Officer, and Susan Decker, who served as President of Yahoo.
Clegg departed from his position as Meta’s Vice President of Global Affairs in 2024. Sandberg concluded her 14-year tenure as Meta’s COO in 2022.
Public Offering Preparations Underway
The capital raise arrives as Nscale advances preparations for a potential stock market debut. The firm has already engaged Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan to serve as lead underwriters for the planned initial public offering.
According to Reuters sources from earlier this year, the company has not yet finalized the timing for the market listing.
A successful public offering would provide Nscale with additional financial resources as rivalry intensifies within the AI infrastructure sector.
Nvidia’s Strategic Investment
Nvidia’s involvement in this funding round carries strategic significance. The semiconductor giant has established a pattern of investing in AI infrastructure ventures that depend on its GPU technology for operations.
Nscale’s operational framework centers on GPU-driven computing infrastructure, positioning Nvidia as a logical strategic investor.
Dell’s participation in the round aligns with the company’s strategic expansion into AI infrastructure through its hardware and server product lines.
Aker, the Norwegian industrial conglomerate leading the investment, has been systematically diversifying into technology and sustainable energy investments over recent years.
8090 Industries partnered with Aker as co-lead investor, despite maintaining a relatively modest public presence compared to other participating investors.
While Nscale has not made revenue data public, the $14.6 billion valuation signals robust investor confidence in companies constructing the foundational infrastructure supporting AI model development and deployment.
The company confirmed that IPO planning remains in progress, with both Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan actively working as designated underwriters.
